Percentage formulas
To find X percent of Y, multiply Y by X ÷ 100. To find what percentage A is of B, divide A by B and multiply by 100. Percentages are useful for discounts, exam scores, taxes, margins, interest and comparisons.
Can percentages be greater than 100?
Yes. A value above 100% means the result exceeds the reference whole.
Why can decimals appear?
Many percentage calculations do not produce whole numbers. Keep enough decimal places for the accuracy your task requires.
